History of Olympic Weightlifting
The Lift Up project is brought to you by chidlovski.com.
Valentin Khristov (Bulgaria)
was one of the first 'wonderkids' brought by Ivan Abadzhiev to the world elite lifting. The footage features his 237.5 kg clean-and-jerk at the 1975 World Championship in Moscow, USSR and his 175 kg snatch at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. In the first case, 19-year old Khristov won the world title and in the second one he won the Olympic gold medal in the 110 kg weightclass. His joy of Olympic victory didn't last long. He was disqualified because of the results of the positive drug testing.
