Anatoly Khrapaty

Kakiasvili’s 3rd C & J of 235 kg (515.06 lb) in the '92 Olympics tied Khrapaty's WR that still stands in the defunct 90 kg weight class), his successful jerk was 145 kg (319.65 lb) over the 90 kg bodyweight limit. The late Anatoly Mikhaylovich Khrapaty (1962-2008), former Olympic gold medalist also did 145 kg in the C & J in the 90 kg weight class (in the 1988 European Championships). I do not know who did it at the lighter bodyweight, but the lifts were done at different competitions. No other lifters ever in any weight class have cleaned & jerked as much weight in excess of their own bodyweight.

Anatoli was the 90kg master. Only Blagoev out snatched him at the weight in 83'. During his reign his snatch and big c&j would win out out every time. The great Yurik Vardanyan totaled the unbeatable 405kg at 82.5 kg. Let's not forget Anatoli totaled 402.5kg against him before he moved up. Incredible lifter and my fan fav.

Kevin is right; Anatoly looked very relaxed out there. But he was all business when he wrapped his hands around the bar. Set up a truly stupendous 235 C&J at 90 kg. Has that ever been equalled? Here's to you, Anatoly!

Anatoly Khrapaty was an avid motocyclist. On August 10, 2008, he died when his motorcycle was struck by a car in a traffic accident in Kazakstan.

I always liked him because he smiled a lot and looked like he was having fun at a competition. I was shocked to see that he had passed away. How did he die?Was it accidental or illness?
