Denis, Your observation is, I believe, correct. Szalai was often just outside the medal group in the late 70's and continued to improve until he made it onto the podium at the 80 Games in Moscow. He was a colorful and exciting lifter to watch. I was happy to see him get a medal in the most prestigious competition we have. I am not a statistician. This is just from my memory of those years. To gain any Olympic medal is a great reward to top off any career.

That's interesting, he has only one international result, did he compete anywhere else? Maybe he hadn't been in the first three before?
