I hear he cj'd 595.2 (270kg) in training. I believe it, and with a 335kg full deep front squat---he was truly a Russian Bear. I can easily picture linebackers bouncing off him like ping pong balls.

I have obtained some 8mm footage of the 83 USSR Nationals. Marchuk snatches 200kg and misses 205. Then misses 1st attempt 250 jerk becaus his foot slipped. Then he makes it easily and waits for kurlovich and Pisarenko to finish. Kurlovich wins on bodyweight but marchuk cleaned 265 and missed the jerk awkardly forcing him flat on his back. What a powerful lifter capable of more.

I admire the man that broke Alexeev`s record very much. I` d like to see more his pictures and I firmly believe that if he had competed nowdays, he would have jerked 270kg!

Marchuk was a C&J phenomenon . I remember reading that the USSR Federation did not submit his 257.5 record initially , as he was only a guest lifter at that competition ( and it erased the great Alex's mark) When he jerked 260 , I also read in the report that he was barely dissuaded from attempting 270 , so pumped up was he! There was a glut of USSR world setters then , Kurlovich , Didyk , Mosibit (heard of him?) , Gunyashev and of course Pisarenko .

I have read little about him. I wish there was more information on him or footage of him setting his records in the clean&jerk. I would especially like to know why his carrer was so brief. Thanks for the info you have of him.
