On-line Demo by Lift Up
Contemporary Olympic weightlifters very seldom perform the clean and jerk or snatch lifts using the split style during the competitions. Prior to today's commonly used squat style, the split style was widely and beautifully used by the elite lifters on the platform.
One of the weightlifting friends of the Lift Up, Mike Rinaldi once said "I think there are few things more pleasing to the eye than a well performed split style lift."
In this interactive demonstration of this almost forgotten lift type, you can view how split style was executed by two legends of Olympic weightlifting in the 1960s - split clean by Waldemar Baszanowski (Poland) at the 1966 World Championship in East Berlin and split snatch by Norbert Schemansky (USA) at the 1962 World Championship in Budapest.
Please select the Split Clean or Split Snatch video to view. You may consider using the control buttons below the clips to enhance the experience of watching these almost forgotten today lifts by the classics of Olympic weightlifting.
